UNICOMPOSITE FABRICS

The final group in the product line is made by thermo chemically bonding glass roving to several different mediums. Fabrics with very exact engineered specifications can be developed this way. For example:

Typical composite fabrics manufactured by this process have glass roving weights that vary from 10 to 40 oz/yd2 (339 to 1,356 gms/m2). By making a two-ply of the glass roving - knit fabric composite, total composite fabric weights can easily exceed 100 oz/yd2 (3,391 gms/m2).

Applications for these types of fabrics are unlimited, and they are ideal where you need much higher strength in the warp direction. Even with the high weights and thickness, the wet out is still very fast.

For pultrusion applications, the veil, mat, and fabric unicomposites with the rovings bonded to them makes it possible to load one roll of unicomposite fabric instead of several different rolls of material and a large number of roving packages in a creel behind the line. By eliminating these creels you gain valuable floor space that can be better utilized.

In addition to the E-glass unicomposites, S-type high strength glass may be used and bonded to the same substrates.

Also, Kevlar and other aramid fibers can be used instead of glass. The aramids can be thermo chemically bonded to the polyester veil, glass scrim, aramid felt, or polyester felt.
